Illustrations by Joe Barsin are special because he combines a passion for history, culture and community with a deep seeded pride in America. Living abroad in Europe during his formative years developed his understanding of an artist’s role in defining a community’s culture and history. Being an Eagle Scout developed his sense of community, patriotism and appreciation for the natural world. Joe is a native of Akron, Ohio, who graduated from Kent State University with a degree in graphic design. He and his wife, Eva, started their own design firm, JEB Design, Inc., in 1998, and continue to work from home while raising their two boys.

Citizen Pride / JEB Design, Inc. is proud to be a part of the rebranding of Naptown Pint and the launch of Naptown Pintcast. Liz Murphy, founder of Naptown Pint, has become an influential voice in the Mid-Atlantic Craft Beer industry. In 2013, Liz started with a small blog which grew into a weekly newspaper column in the Annapolis Capital. Naptown Pint is about to launch Naptown Pintcast which will be a media vehicle to interview the many players involved in this booming Mid-Atlantic industry of Craft Beer.

Joe Barsin and Liz Murphy have been friends through our mutual love of Craft beer and Communications. Below are links to past interviews on both topics.

Creative's Block Interview, "Freelance vs. Agency Designers":

The Creative Process of developing the Naptown Pint & Pintcast Logo

It has been an ongoing discussion between Liz, Joe and Eva Barsin on what image would capture the spirit of Naptown Pint. We knew it had to reflect Liz's point of view and beer! From a creative standpoint, we all loved the work of the 1950's Pulp fiction art along with contemporary work of Shepard Fairey. Liz also wanted to pay tribute to the the 1930's Speakeasy culture of the Prohibition. We hope you like the end result of this creative stew of ideas! We had a lot of fun working on it and look forward to the new Naptown Pintcast!

Annapolis St. Patrick's Day Parade flying our Irish Claddagh flags

Citizen Pride was proud to help support the Annapolis St. Patrick's Day Parade by donating our Maryland Irish Claddagh themed flags that were in display at the Parade's grandstand near City Dock. We also joined the parade by teaming up with HERE, the popular POP-Up shop of Annapolis who carry many of our flags.

Maryland Bay Plate illustrated by Joe Barsin

Our graphic design company, JEB Design, Inc. worked with The Chesapeake Bay Trust in creating their brand identity. Joe Barsin illustrated the Maryland Bay Plate. This unveiling of the new design, shown here, was in 2003.

Governor Harry Hughes of Maryland (left of plate) and the Chesapeake Bay Trust Board was on hand to unveil the new "Treasure the Chesapeake" plate.

The design and illustration of the Maryland "Treasure the Chesapeake" car license plate was a wonderful experience. I worked closely with the Chesapeake Bay Trust's Executive Director, David O'Neil. I presented six different concepts to the plate committee which are shown below. They immediately gravitated to the plate with both the heron and the crab. — Joe Barsin of Citizen Pride

Technical illustrator notes: Joe Barsin used Adobe illustrator’s gradient feature extensively in the license plate illustration. He created the detailing in the heron’s wing and the shading variations in the crab with the gradient tool. The license plate required four Pantone colors, so keeping the colors separate for trapping was crucial.
